The BlackBerry Developer Relations group is responsible for growing the BlackBerry developer community and managing technical relationships with companies that are developing new wireless applications for BlackBerry Handhelds. The Application Development Consultant is responsible for supporting the Java development activities of strategic partners and customers and acting as a subject matter expert on custom software development for BlackBerry. The successful candidate will work with companies developing custom Multi-Media applications and Content Services for BlackBerry such as Mobile Music Services, Online Gaming, Location-Based Services and Rich-Media News and Information Applications. The role requires both business and technical acumen, with an emphasis on the technical background. This opportunity is ideally suited for a candidate with a software development background who has an interest in being in a partner-facing role and learning more about the wireless application market. The Developer Relations team is small and extremely dynamic, offering a perfect opportunity for an engineer or software developer to get experience towards a business- or product-related career. Strong communication skills and a personable nature are necessities for the role, and the ideal candidate should also be able to work independently with a willingness to seek out new opportunities and implement new ideas.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in a computing or engineering field, with work experience in software development
• Working knowledge of Java programming and HTML web development
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
• Java Micro Edition experience
• Experience with Web 2.0 technologies such as AJAX, ATOM, DHTML and Widgets
• Previous experience in a technical pre-sales or support role
